I just love the sound of a constantly barking dog, just kidding, who does
anyway? This is one of the worst things that can really drive any person
mad.
It has been proven that dogs generally bark when they are
stressed, frustrated, anxious or overly excited and none of these emotions
should predominantly be considered good or healthy for your dog or even you as
the owner. Always bear in mind that a relaxed dog hardly barks at all.
When do dogs bark excessively?
In most cases, dogs particularly bark when owners are not at
home which is a very common issue that has always had neighbours complaining. Usually, dog
owners simply do not know that they have this problem until their neighbour
pays them an unexpected visit. What do you do in this case? You need to
understand why your dog is barking in order to eradicate this situation. You
need to address the actual cause of your dog's constant barks instead of
attempting to treat the symptoms.
This is not easy to grasp since one needs to see it all
through your dog's eyes...bear with me on this one; pack leader instincts are
required at this stage. Think of it like this: All dogs are pack animals, it's
in their nature to follow a pack leader and one of the pack leader's jobs is to
always protect the pack. When you leave your house on a daily basis with your
dog alone at home, that's when all the frustration, stress and anxiety ensues.
Your dog thinks that they have lost their pack, they think that they are the
leader and their job is protect you which is in fact incorrect. They bark
because they are simply calling you to come back home. In simple terms, they
are doing their job.
Did you know that all the chewing, digging and attempting to
jump over the fence only happen when you are not around? Why is this happening
you may ask? "The pack leader", your dog in this case is simply
worried about its followers not being around, home and safe. I know how this
sounds but it really makes sense if you think about it.
What is the solution? Watch the following video testimonial from a lady who used Doggy Dan's method on her barking dog below:
You need to take it upon yourself to learn how to become the pack leader in your dog's eyes. Once you have this figured out to a point where you fully understand what I call "pack leader instincts", your dog will stop seeing it as their obligation to protect you. You will be able to come and go as you please whereas they on the other hand are totally relaxed. The real solution lies in becoming the pack leader -no tricks but an honest understanding of how your dog thinks and learning how to think like them.
Here are a few additional
tips you can immediately use in conjunction with becoming the pack leader that
will certainly stop your dog from barking:
- Exercise: Making sure that you exercise your dog before you leave the house can really help your dog to relax. How? A tired dog is simply more likely to relax, do you see the point in this?
- Feed and leave water available for your dog - this is just obvious if you want a happy relaxed dog.
- Ever thought of picking up the bones: Try to leave toys around for your dog to play with, but not bones.
- How about some music or TV?: You might also consider leaving some music playing for your dog or the TV – these type of distractions can really help a lot.
